East Africa
Rwanda is remarkable –both from a touristic and political point of view. The country has probably gone through its darkest chapter of history during the 1994 genocide. Since then, however, it seems there is only one way forward: reconciliation, looking ahead, conservation of culture and nature. In an extraordinary step, this densely populated nation has recently banned any use of plastic bags!
Rwanda's biggest asset is the country's well-protected population of mountain gorillas, living in the cross-border region with Uganda and Congo.
